3. the "FIN SAVER" landing net by Beckman
Beckman's Pen Series nets with the Fin Saver bag have proved invaluable for Bob in handling big muskies. With the net in the water over the edge of the boat, muskies remain in their our element and there is plenty of room to work the fish and remove hooks. The coated, woven bag has no knots and the sides have small mesh openings to protect the fish's fins. Big muskies can even swim upright in the roomy bag.

6.  Solunar Tables Explained

The
SOLUNAR TABLES list the daily times during which wildlife is most active - as compared with other times of that particular day. This does not mean that fish WILL feed, that ducks WILL fly, or that you will return with a filled creel or game pocket. It DOES mean that the SOLUNAR TABLES will tell you, in advance, what time of the day of the year you can expect to find the best in sport which that day has to offer. Get the Angler's Edge hand held computer with solunar tables, barometer, and fish activity predictor. FISH SMART, NOT Hard.

We do not specify that any one day, or group of days, of each month may be better suited to fishing or hunting than any other day or group of days of that same month. Too many factors enter into the picture for us to give you any reliable assurance on that score. But we can tell you this.

Make it a point to plan your days in the outdoors, be it with rod or gun, so that you can take full advantage of the SOLUNAR Periods. If you do, you will find the best in sport which each day has to offer.

HOW TO USE SOLUNAR TABLES
Every fisherman and every hunter knows how variable his "luck" can be in pursuit of his sport. On some days, the fish will rise readily to his fly or the game will be abundant in the covers. On other days, the fish will ignore the choicest offerings or the game will be scarce and difficult to find. And that is as it should be. Shooting that is too good grows tiresome.

On the good days there are always times when the fish seem more ravenous or the game more plentiful than at other times of that same day. These periods, as a rule, last about two hours. You've seen them. Suddenly, for no evident reason, the fish will begin to feed actively, taking most anything you offer them. By the same token, every cover holds game. The birds are easy to find and they lie well for the dog. Then, just about as quickly as it has begun, the activity begins to taper off until in a short space of time all nature will be quiet once more. The fish stop feeding and the covers are empty.

WHAT IS A SOLUNAR PERIOD?
These unexplained periods of activity - the "odd-hour" feeding periods - have been a puzzle to sportsmen for generations. We know, of course, that dawn and dusk are normal periods of activity. Those are the times when, as a friend once phrased it,4he day shift knocks off and the night shift goes to work," or vice versa. All of us try to plan to take advantage of those feeding periods at dawn and dusk. But the "odd-hour" periods which occur during the day - and night - must be stumbled upon by luck unless we have a guide. That is where SOLUNAR TABLES come into play. I :Years ago, while there was still such a thing as legal market hunting, the men who made their living by shooting game and catching fish found that these odd-hour activity periods seemed to be in rhythm with the moon's daily ,southings. They planned their work in accord with this schedule, calculated rather loosely, going afield when the moon was directly overhead or directly underfoot. "Moon Up - Moon Down" was the rule. These men, whose daily bread depended upon their success in the field were not given to wasting valuable time. They learned that close adherence to this schedule paid div- idends. It was from the grandson of an old Georgia market hunter that the idea for the SOLUNAR Theory first came. By taking this old schedule of "Moon Up - Moon Down" and applying modern science to it, we learned much of wildlife behavior. And in so doing we have learned to forecast, a year or more in advance, these odd-hour activity and feeding periods. In view of the fact that the sun plays its part in the formation of the schedule, we have coined the word "Solunar," a combination of "sol" and "lunar." Thus the odd-hour periods are called SOLUNAR Periods.

MAJOR PERIODS AND MINOR PERIODS
As explained prevlously. the SOLUNAR Periods - the odd-hour periods of activity and feeding on the part of wildlife - last, as a rule about teo hours. This is not always true, however.

You will note in the
SOLUNAR TABLES that the SOLUNAR Periods occur, as a rule, four times daily. The lunar day being twenty-four hours and fifty-odd minutes, there are some days of each month in which the twenty-four hours will not accommodate all four of its SOLUNAR periods. In addition, the Minor Periods are usually of shorter duration than the Major Periods. Major periods, when conditions are ideal, have been known to last as long as three and a half hours. Mostly, however, their duration is about two hours. Minors last from forty-five minutes to an hour and a half. But don't make the mistake of ignoring these shorter periods. Many times the best fishing of the day is found in this short space of time.

OFFSETTING FACTORS
It must be remembered that fishing and Hunting always are subject to weather conditions. This is true also of SOLUNAR Periods..

The
SOLUNAR TABLES are not a guarantee that fish will come tumbling to your lure or that the covers will be filled with game. They are a forecast of the PROBABLE periods of activity - the times during which fish and game are most likely to feed, if they are going to do so, during any given day.

You know perfectly well that you don't have good fishing or good shooting every time you go out. If we could guarantee you a daily limit of fish or game we doubt very much that we would do so. But we can tell you this. If you plan each day so that you are on good water or in good cover during the SOLU NAR Periods, you will have the best sport which that particular day has to offer.

CONDITIONS IN GENERAL
Temperature plays an important part in the behavior of wildlife. When the water is cold, fish are apt to be lethargic and inactive. When the water is too warm, the same is true. Temperatures ranging from 60 degrees to 68 degrees are perhaps the best for most types of fresh-water fishing. Air temperatures which are lower than water temperatures nearly always make for poor fishing. On cold, windy days game is not disposed to be active. All of these things tend to offset the effects of the SOLUNAR Periods.

CHANGES IN BAROMETRIC LEVELS
The most important factor that decides the fate of your day's fishing is in the trend of the barometer. Fishing and the glass go hand in hand. If the glass is falling, don't blame any of the one hundred and one things
which may affect your day's sport. It is not in the cards for you to find a good day`s fishing when he barometer is falling. Get the Angler's Edge hand held computer with solunar tables, barometer, and fish activity predictor. FISH SMART, NOT Hard.

True, SOLUNAR influence sometimes will offset a slight drop in the glass and the fish will feed, but more often the reverse is the case. Generally the fish lie deep when the glass is falling, and sometimes a good catch can be made by fishing well down in the deeper water. In any event it is your best bet under unfavorable barometric conditions. In the absence of other means of determination, a fairly accurate gauge of barometric trend is to watch the leaves of the trees along the bank. If as the wind blows, the leaves turn over, showing their light undersides, you can be safe in assuming the glass is falling and the change of weather for the worse is to be expected. If the leaves stay right side up in the wind, it usually indicates a high or rising glass. Thus, you can gauge your fishing accordingly.

Game is affected by barometric changes just as fish are . With the approach of a storm, upland birds and game seek the heavy cover for protection. Usually, when the glass is falling, the open feeding covers will be deserted. Ducks become quite restless as soon as the glass begins to fall, trading back and forth and affording good shooting.

IN CONCLUSION

If you follow the tables closely, you will notice a distinct variance in the degree of activity from day to day. On one day there may be a period of twenty minutes during which there is intensive activity which stops as quickly as it starts. The next day or, for that matter, during the next SOLUNAR Period of that same day the activity may be spread out over a space of two hours or better.

The reason for this variance seems to be in direct relation to changes in the several factors which affect the movements of fish and game. Too many influences must be considered to attempt to set down a hard and fast schedule of performance on the part of wildlife. Get the Angler's Edge that gives you the Solunar majors adjusted for local weather factors!

7.  How to Master Boat Control in Windy Conditions
Bob says, "Use the Drift Sock to stay on structure".
And use your trolling motor to fine tune your position !
   Use Drift Sock

Drift Control = Boat Control

When drifting flats, deploy 2 Drift Control Socks to keep the boat from drifting unevenly.

Run one or two drift socks from the bow to slow down your trolling speed. Or cut the bounce on windy/wavy days.

Use a Drift Control Drift Sock along with your trolling motor to present baits to a wind-blown shoreline.

Underwater points can be worked by using your trolling motor in combination with a drift sock to follow a contour into the wind.

11. Phantom Lures - Softail Canadian Style rigging

Many Canadian provinces require Catch and Release fishing. Here is a tip for rigging your Phantom Softtail with one hook. Move the rear hook forward to the center of the body, after you remove the front hook. Canadian guides will be much happier in helping you release fish, AND they will tend to put you onto bigger fish because one-hook releasing is so much easier and safer for fish and people! 12. Lundberg Stalker from Sweden
The Kjelle Lundberg Stalker has been catching giant pike in Sweden and Europe for years and is now catching trophy musky here. This jerk bait is now available to pike and muskie anglers in the USA and Canada through Lundberg Custom Baits. The Stalker has also become a secret weapon for trophy striper and largemouth fishermen in the southern and western U.S.  The Stalker will certainly become "Your New Favorite Lure"!

Each hand made, wooden, custom painted lure is weighted, balanced, and tested by Swedish northern pike angler, Kjelle Lundberg to give it great side to side action and great hang time. Lundberg Custom Baits has teamed up with Bob and Simply Fishing to help promote and educate people about the Stalker lure. Bob will be fishing for monster pike and musky using a variety of Stalker lures during his 2008 fishing season. Kjelle has custom painted some Stalkers specifically for Bob Mehsikomer for musky and pike fishing this coming season.  Bob wanted some bright colored Stalkers with contrasting barred stripes for use in Canada. The new patterns are called the "Orange Tiger" and "Chartreuse Tiger". Bob also likes many of kjelle's other custom colors.
